Bethany’s Best: A Few of My Favorite Things

Every few months I like to do a roundup of some of the best things I’ve been reading and doing to share with you all.

Wherever you’re at today, I hope you’re finding things you love and enjoy as well! Feel free to share your favs in the comments below so I can give them a try 🙂

Books:

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

(Affiliate link.)

I had never read this before so picked it up at my local library. What a weird and fun read! Bonus that my five year old loved reading it too.

Silverstein’s poems are whimsical, weird, funny, smart, and sometimes seemingly out of nowhere they are incredibly insightful. This is a classic I was glad to finally get a chance to read. Highly recommended!

When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse Khan-Cullors

(Affiliate link.)

This was not a fun book to read, but it was a good one. It was a hard book, an emotional book. At times it was downright scary and definitely angering. Heartbreaking. The systematic and brutal racism that still takes place in our own country is shocking and terrible.

This is definitely a memoir, at times jumping around a bit past facts I wanted more information about. Overall it was a hard but excellent read and an important one. (Especially for people like me who come from privilege and don’t always see.)

Website:

Austin Kleon

I am a recent subscriber to Austin Kleon’s newsletter and am a definite fan of everything he does. He shares great thoughts on writing, creativity, living well, along with plenty of doodles and art.

All of his books are on my resources page and are worth buying because you’ll want to reread them and then only lend them out to people who will return them so you can reread them again.

Music:

Liz and Dan Faiella

Making music from the Irish and New England traditions, this sibling duo is absolutely amazing! Their album At long Last is excellent. I’ve made it to a few of their shows and hope to hear them in person again soon.

Liz and Dan make excellent music and are excellent people- they are friends of mine and I am in awe of all they do.

Tea:

Winter Wake Up Tea

(Affiliate link.)

This tea is sweet and spicy and really really good. Reminds me of chai. I stocked up at Trader Joe’s because they only carry it during the winter!

Game:

Sushi Go

(Affiliate link.)

Okay, so I love the art on this game so it’s awesome for that alone. But it’s also actually a really great game! It’s not too crazy complicated to learn but each game is different depending on the cards and who is playing which keeps it interesting.

It may give you a craving for sushi so be warned 🙂

Recipe:

Slow Cooker Thai Curry Soup

I made this twice around the holidays and received lots of compliments and people asking for the recipe.

Plus it’s super easy (yay!) and vegan and GF friendly. And delicious! This recipe has made my “to make again” files for sure.
